Beware the Sugar Tax is Coming

It’s been in a the media for a little while now, and it looks like the Government are going to impose some kind of a sugar tax on those sweet treats that most of you crave. Is this just lazy politics? Would something like this actually make a difference in our society? I’ve got my thoughts so I am going to share them with you…

So, Sugar Tax…What do you think to it?

Everyone has their own personal view. Let’s be honest – most who are on low incomes may think that it’s going to hit them pretty hard. Whilst thats probably true (due to the types of food they tend to buy – the supermarket trolleys do not lie), surely that would then mean its time to find an alternative. If this is you, there is no need to worry about it.

But the reality is that you probably are. People are feeling like they are being punished for the decision making of others and feeling hard done by that they can no longer enjoy that piece of cheesecake or buy that chocolate eclair they want because the price is now going to be hiked up.

Let’s get real here for one minute…

If you want an eclair or a piece of cheesecake then you bloody well buy it. Every once in a while is not going to hurt your pocket. It’s when you are buying these things on a daily basis – for those people that is really going to hurt! And you know what? So it should hurt you. You shouldn’t be eating those sorts of things regularly. People who say this sugar tax is going to really affect them, you are just lazy, lazy people!

Controversial I know, but you are lazy!

The types of food that are going to be affected by this tax are very much of the convenient kind. We as a nation (and a world for that matter) are always looking for convenience – the quick fixes, the thing for which we have no need to apply effort.

Cooking is very much one of those things that we complain about. We never have time to cook – we are always too busy. If you plan a little bit, everything becomes easy. You CAN turn good food into convenience food. Never lose sight of that fact. You just spend a little bit of time cooking in bulk, you put the stuff in the fridge or freezer and you get it out when you need it. There you go, convenience at your service.

Let me tell you something else…

Most people do not know how to eat healthily whilst on a tight budget. They do know what foods they should be buying at the supermarket on a weekly basis.

We have a gap in education here, but we also have a lot of ignorant people. So there is a bit of a challenge presented to me.

A lot of people are commenting saying that our children need to be educated on obesity. I agree with that, because food tech and nutrition advice in schools is generally still pretty poor. But you know what, thats not the main problem I don’t think. I think the lack of nutritional education amongst parents is something that is letting this country down.

Now I know this could potentially offend, and that’s not my intention here. Parents will do what they think is best for their kids. My mum did it for me, I’m sure your parents have done it for you as well. But some of the decisions parents are making when it comes to their own nutrition and their children nutrition is really letting the team down here. Kids want convenience. Where do they did that from? They get it from the environment that they have been brought up in.

We need more parents to stand up and admit that they are not sure about healthy eating, and I/we need them to be less ignorant. Actually, it would be great if everyone could be less ignorant and actually be willing to act on some solid advice.

If we could do that we would not need to worry about things like sugar taxes and the like.

We need not worry about about sugar taxes, you should make sure that you are making sounder choices when it comes to food selection. If you are stuck or you would like to ask a question in confidence, send me a message. I’ll get back to you and help you out as best I can.

People think personal trainers and nutritionists are for the elite. They are not. I could easily save you the money that would pay to have my services.

What are you thoughts on sugar taxes and lack of education? What’s stopping you from taking action if you are unsure about what foods you should be consuming?

Take care

Josh
